SALT LAKE CITY (News4Utah)- Surveillance video released Thursday shows the moments just before a man was found dead after a short chase with Salt Lake City police.

35-year-old Michael Zahn

On Wednesday, Salt Lake City police responded to reports of a trespasser near 300 South 400 West.

The person was later identified as 35-year-old Michael Zahn, a parole fugitive considered armed and dangerous. When the officer tried to make contact, they say Zahn took off.

Video shows Zahan running around a building and jumping a fence. Toward the end of the video an officer is seen ducking from what is assumed to be bullets. Another officer pulls out his weapon before the two take off.

The next video shows Zahn apparently shooting a glass door to break it open and then jumping inside.

“At some point during the foot pursuit, the suspect produced a firearm and shots were fired,” a press release stated.

Zahn was later found dead. Police said he appeared to have died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The West Valley City Police Dept. is handling the investigation.
