LAYTON, Utah (News4Utah) –  A 27-year old father knew something was wrong in his home.

His lights were set to a timer and at five in the morning they are scheduled to be on.

“It is normally on and I noticed it was off and the sliding door was halfway open,” said the father of two children.

He and his wife don’t want to be identified. Early Monday morning a stranger entered their home while his family slept.

Their youngest, an eight year old was sound asleep in his crib.  A month earlier they placed a camera at his bedside to monitor his activities.

But after his father went from room to room to see if anyone had entered it, he turned to the video recording and reviewed it.

That’s when he saw a man in the baby’s room and moving towards where his wife was sleeping nearby.

“He was walking around the bedroom and watching my wife who was asleep,” he said.  “That alone just knowing that someone was in the house just set me off.”

But then he saw the suspect expose himself and begin a lewd act while his wife slept.
His wife was horrified to learn a stranger was in their home.

“I felt violated,” she said.

But it was her two children that she was most worried about.  In addition to the 8-month old boy, they have a two-year old girl.

“That was my biggest fear,” she said.  “He walked past my son and my son is at the age if someone picked him up he wouldn’t cry you know.  That’s what really scared me the most.”

The camera never did record the man’s face but Layton police hope the video recording will get someone’s attention.

“We’re hoping somebody recognizes his mannerisms,” said Lt. Tracy Lyman.  “The way he moves around the room, his slip on shoes that he’s wearing.

Lt. Lyman said the man is thing and average height and was wearing dark colored jeans and light colored shoes.

“He had a wedding band on,” said Lt. Lyman.  “He was carrying an apple phone with a cutout on the back showing that apple symbol.”

The couple said they have no idea how he got into the home.  Police said all of the doors and windows were locked.  For now, they are staying with friends.

“I feel held back because I can’t move on,” said the woman.  “I don’t have closure.”

If you have any information about who this man may be, contact Layton police at 801-497-8300.
