SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 News) – Utah students met at the Capitol Monday demanding Governor Herbert stop a Bureau of Land Management auction.
The auction is held quarterly but the activists say this one, in particular, is disastrous because it is the largest lease sale since the Bush administration with 217,576 acres of public lands for sale.
The activists want the entire sale stopped, saying that any sale of land to oil or gas companies disregards indigenous people and climate change.
An oil trader who declined to go on camera, said the parcels are too far from infrastructure to pose a real ecological threat in the near future.
