FARMINGTON, Utah (News4Utah) – More than 9,000 high school and middle school students from Utah and surrounding states gathered Friday at Lagoon Amusement Park.

They were there for a day of science, fun and competition.

It was the 29th annual Utah State University physics day at the theme park. The students got the chance to explore the reality of physics in a fun way while also providing them with the opportunity to take concepts outside the classroom and into the real world and into their memories.

“It means a lot to these kids to come down and see 10,000 of their closest friends who think that being a geek is not so bad. Or to walk in and see the scientists and engineers that are here from all the companies that help sponsor physics day,” said JR Dennison, USU faculty member.

May of the students left the event with prizes and a select few received full scholarships to Utah State University.
