WEST VALLEY CITY (ABC4 News) The entire state joined the South Salt Lake Police Department as it says final goodbyes to one of its own Wednesday.

The community celebrated the life of Officer David Romrell Wednesday. He was killed in the line of duty on November 24.

Before joining the South Salt Lake Police Department, Romrell served the United States as a decorated sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Romrell left behind a wife and a 4-month-old son. A GoFundMe page created to help support his family during this difficult time.

The funeral service in honor of Romrell took place at the Maverik Center at 3200 Decker Lake Drive in West Valley City.

After the service, a procession traveled to Larkin Mortuary in Sandy.
