BATTLE MOUNTAIN, Nevada (ABC4 News) – A Utah man was critically injured after two trucks collided on I-80 in Nevada Monday night.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, the crash happened at 5:35 p.m. about 17 miles east of Battle Mountain. A 28-year-old man from Las Vegas was driving a tractor-trailer combination and tried to merge onto I-80 from the right shoulder.

At the same time, another tractor-trailer driven by a 42-year-old man from Hyde Park, Utah, was driving in the slow lane and hit the rear trailer (full impact) of the merging truck.

Both trucks came to rest on their wheels in the eastbound travel lanes blocking I-80 for three hours.

The man from Utah sustained critical injuries in the crash and was transported to a hospital in Salt Lake City. The other driver was transported to the Battle Mountain hospital and was later released.

The crash is still under investigation by the Nevada Highway Patrol.
