Utah man accused of killing wife on cruise ship makes first court appearance

JUNEAU, Alaska (ABC4 Utah) A Utah man accused of killing his wife on an Alaska cruise last month appeared in a Juneau Court Wednesday.
 
Kenneth Ray Manzanares is charged with killing his 39-year-old wife Kristy on board the Emerald Princess Cruise line. 
 
According to U.S. Attorney Jack Schmidt, no formal plea was entered in court Wednesday. “No formal plea was entered because of a status hearing ordered by the Judge who appeared via video from Anchorage,” said. Schmidt.
 
The status hearing will take place on September 22.
 
It is still not known whether the state will pursue the death penalty in this case.
