Utah lawmaker proposes ‘Silver Alert’ for missing, endangered adults

Local News

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC 4 News) – When a child vanishes we have Amber Alerts, but what about when elderly adults, who might be in danger, disappear?

A bill filed Wednesday for the 2019 Utah Legislative Session would create the Silver Alert Notification Program. State Rep. Lee Perry is the sponsor behind H.B. 215

Perry’s bill would also define the term “endangered adult” as a person 60 years of age or older with dementia.

To help alert the public and track down endangered adults when they wander away or get lost, the bill would require the Utah Department of Public Safety to come up with an alert system similar to the Amber Alert System. That alert system would also use the electronic signage over freeways in the area to notify the public.
