SALT LAKE CITY (News4Utah)- Drivers be warned—starting Friday law enforcement agencies across the state will be cracking down on impaired drivers.

From August 17th until September 3rd drivers can expect to see an increase in DUI enforcement.

34 different agencies will be adding 250 extra DUI shifts as part of the national Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over crackdown.

The crackdown coincides with the end of Summer and a campaign from the Utah Department Public Safety: “Choose to drink? Choose your ride”.

Officials say in 2017 there were 10,766 arrests for DUI in Utah. That averages out to 29.5 arrests per day.

On average 33 people die each year due to crashes caused by impaired drivers.
