SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (News4Utah) Sixty Utah girls tried out for their big break in a hit Broadway musical.
The Tony-nominated musical Waitress will cast two young girls to share the role of “Lulu” when the show comes to Salt Lake City in September.
The girls auditioned in front of the show’s assistant director Susanna Wolk in the Eccles Theater.
After years in New York, Waitress staff decided to cast local girls in every city during the tour.
“To be able to be up there with so many amazing people would be awesome,” Emily Burnham said, whose daughter auditioned Wednesday.
The musical tells the story of “Jenna,” an expert pie baker working at a local diner and stuck in a loveless marriage. Her salvation comes in the form of her daughter, “Lulu”.
“This child is full of life. She is the center of attention for the last few minutes of the show,” Wolk said.
The girls will perform in four shows each.
Waitress comes to Salt Lake City on September 25-30 at Eccles Theater.
