SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 News) – A Utah environmental group is warning the public about fake phone calls going out under a spoofed number.
Utah Clean Energy said it has been a victim of a phone spoofing attack that began Wednesday afternoon. The local clean energy advocacy group has received hundreds of phone calls complaining about the attack.
“Potentially hundreds of cellphone customers received calls that appeared to come from Utah Clean Energy’s main phone number,” said Sarah Wright, executive director, Utah Clean Energy. “However, these calls were not initiated by our company, rather from someone ‘spoofing’ our organization’s main phone number.”
Utahns reported receiving a call from a rude and pushy salesperson trying to sell them solar panels.
The organization says if you receive a call like this, do not give them any personal information. It’s best to call Utah Clean Energy and report the call.
