Utah doctors to give gift of sight

Local News

BOUNTIFUL (ABC4 News) – We normally think of gift-giving during the holidays, but a team of Utah doctors is gearing up to give a gift of sight changing the lives of thousands of people.

Performance Automotive Dealerships in Bountiful and ABC4 Utah have partnered to support an effort to give sight to people who might never have the opportunity to receive medical care.

A team of surgeons and medical staff from Utah are preparing to travel to El Salvador.

Dr. Albert Ungricht, a 36-year ophthalmologist in Utah, explains why he makes the sacrifice to perform these life-changing procedures.

“When we operate on that patient, all of sudden there’s a little child that can go to school or there’s somebody that can go to work. The World Health Organization estimates that in developing nations every cataract operation impacts the lives of 2.1 people,” said Ungrict.

Our partners at Performance Automotive Dealerships in Bountiful have set up displays asking the community to help give the gift of sight. If you would like to support the medical movement, you can donate used reading glasses, walkers, canes, crutches to Eyecare International at these drop-off sites. You can also drop off donations at the ABC4 Utah studios located at 2175 West 1700 South in Salt Lake City.
