WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) – UPDATE: The West Valley Police Department said they have arrested two people, Hassan Al Rekabi and Samuel Niu, in connection with the homicide of Jake Gengelbach.
As SWAT prepared to serve a search warrant at Hassan al Rekabi’s residence on Monday afternoon, police said Al Rekabi left in a vehicle.
Officers followed the vehicle and made contact in a nearby parking lot and took Al Rekabi into custody for questioning.
Hassan A Rekabi was booked into jail for criminal homicide. Investigators said his home was searched for evidence of that crime. Police believe Samuel Niu was present when the victim was shot. After the police interview, he was booked on a charge of obstruction, according to officials.
Police in West Valley City are asking the public for help after a man was found dead early Sunday morning of an apparent gunshot wound.
According to Roxeanne Vainuku, West Valley City Police, officers responded to the Overlook Point Apartment Complex, located at 4612 South 2930 West, at about 1:40 a.m. after multiple calls of shots fired.
Officers arrived and checked the complex and did not find anything suspicious.
An Officer checking business parking lots in the area located a male adult lying in the parking lot of the Hire’s Restaurant at 2900 West 4700 South.
The man, identified as Jake Gengelbach, 22, appeared to have been shot and bullet casings were found on the ground next to his body.
Vainuku said at this time, investigators have little information regarding this case and are asking anyone who might have seen or heard something, or, anyone who has information regarding this case, to please call 801-840-4000.
