UHP: Expect increased DUI patrols St. Patrick’s Day weekend

Local News

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (News4Utah) – Utah Highway Patrol is reminding drivers more than 100 overtime shifts will be added this weekend, as patrol officers look for anyone driving under the influence.

St. Patrick’s Day is one of the busiest days of the year for local bars and restaurants. And people drink – a lot. Last St. Patrick’s Day weekend, UHP arrested 55 people for DUI in Utah.

“We’re gonna put you in jail, your vehicle will be impounded,” said Lt. Todd Royce with UHP. Utah’s current DUI blood alcohol level is .08. On December 30, it will change to .05 after a controversial bill was signed into law in 2017.

New Year’s weekend yielded no suspicious crashes or DUI deaths, a number UHP says they like to see.
