PARLEYS CANYON (News4Utah)-Drivers headed to and from Parleys Canyon need to plan ahead. Overnight Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday portions of the road will be closed.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the Utah Department of Transportation has extended construction one more night. Originally the closure was through Thursday morning, but UDOT has had to change the schedule a bit.
We were unable to complete the girder installation last night. Westbound I-80 will need to close again tonight from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. from Jeremy Ranch to Lambs Canyon and the eastbound closure will shift to Thursday night. We regret any inconvenience that this may cause. pic.twitter.com/TRvE6Gi0x5— Utah DOT (@UtahDOT) August 1, 2018
They say Westbound I-80 is scheduled to close from Wednesday, Aug. 1, at 8 p.m. until Thursday, Aug. 2, at 6 a.m. between Jeremy Ranch (exit 141) and Lambs Canyon (exit 137).
At 8 p.m Thursday UDOT will be closing eastbound lanes in the same area. The closure will be in place until 6 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3.
Drivers should use I-84 through Ogden, or U.S. 40 and U.S. 189 through Provo Canyon, as alternate routes. These closures could add up to 90 minutes for drivers planning travel between Salt Lake City and Park City.
UDOT officials say they will be placing a total of 12 beams for a new wildlife overpass, which will reduce collisions and help keep drivers as well as area wildlife safe. The beams weigh a total of 240,000 pounds – about as much as an adult blue whale.
The completed bridge will be 330 feet long and 48 feet wide.
