SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 News) — The University of Utah’s Youth Theatre won a national award during this year’s Junior Theater Festival West competition held in Sacramento.

Theatre students presented selections from “Into the Woods Jr.”

Dean McFlicker, one of the judges, said “This group gave us clean and clear diction and storytelling from curtain up to curtain call! There was supportive ensemble choreography even during the great solos.”

The competition is held yearly, with more than 2,000 students from 15 states and South Korea attending from over 40 different musical theater groups.

According to the University of Utah, the youth theatre programs help college students learn to communicate, collaborate, create and celebrate theater arts in the classroom and by performance.
