U ‘goes blue’ for diabetes awareness

Local News

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 News) – This week if you’re on the University of Utah campus at night you may see an unfamiliar hue.

The George S. Eccles 2002 Legacy Bridge and the front of the University of Utah Hospital will be illuminated in blue light.

These areas along with thousands of monuments and buildings around the world are lit in blue in November to raise awareness of diabetes and the importance of diabetes research.

According to a 2015 Center for Disease Control report, 30.3 million Americans 9.4 percent of the U.S. population have diabetes. Another 84.1 million have prediabetes, a condition that if not treated often leads to type 2 diabetes within five years.
