LITTLE COTTONWOOD CANYON (ABC4 News) – Two skiers escaped unharmed after an avalanche up Little Cottonwood Canyon Monday morning.

Utah Avalanche Center said a skier triggered a slide at Emma Ridge (above Alta) around 8:15 a.m.

Officials reported the slide was 12-18” deep and about 200-300’ wide.

Two skiers were caught in the slide, but officials said they were OK.

UAC notes there were “extremely high precipitation” rates at the time of the avalanche.  The organization said strong winds and heavy snowfall created high avalanche hazard statewide.
