MAGNA, Utah (ABC4 News) – Utah Highway Patrol identified two people killed in a crash on SR-201 Wednesday evening.
Troopers said Raphael R. Xiques, 26, of West Jordan and Giovanni Suazo, 21, of Taylorsville, both perished in the crash.
UHP said a white Subaru occupied by Xiques and Suazo was headed northbound on 9120 West turning westbound on SR-201 with while a gold Nissan Pathfinder with a single 42-year-old male occupant, was traveling eastbound on SR-201.
When the Subaru entered the eastbound lanes of SR 201, the Nissan crashed into the driver-side door of the Subaru.
Troopers said Xiques and Suazo were pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the Nissan was taken to Intermountain Medical Center in Murray in serious condition.
Westbound lanes in the area remained closed for a couple of hours as officials investigated the crash. Officials said they do not know if impairment was a factor in the crash at this time.
