Two juveniles in custody, bystander injured in South Salt Lake shooting

SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah (ABC4 News) – Two juveniles are in custody this evening after an early afternoon shooting in South Salt Lake.

According to South Salt Lake PIO Gary Keller, the shooting occurred at about 1 p.m. near the 7-Eleven on 2700 South State Street.

A car was stopped westbound at a traffic light at 2700 South and State Street when the individuals in the car and the two males on the street corner started flashing “Gang Signs”. The vehicle pulled into the 7-11 parking lot when the two males opened fire on the car. 

After the shooting stopped, the vehicle sped away from the scene and the two males ran away on foot. A containment was set-up and Unified K-9 officers were called to assist in the search. The two suspect were found in a nearby garage and a handgun was recovered a block from the scene.

A 32-year-old male bystander was shot in the foot during the incident and was taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. He has since been treated and released.

The two juveniles, ages 16 and 17, have been booked into the Salt Lake County Juvenile Detention Center.
