Troopers: SUV’s tires were smooth in fatal crash

Local News

RICHMOND, Utah (ABC4 News) – An elderly woman is dead after a crash on State Route 91 in Richmond Tuesday.

A green Subaru Forester was traveling northbound on SR-91 when it crashed with an empty box trailer traveling southbound in the same area.

Utah Highway Patrol said the Subaru lost control on a snow-covered road, crossed into the southbound lanes and went under the rear semi-trailer’s dual wheels.

Troopers said the female passenger in the Subaru was ejected and died at the scene. She was identified as Phyllis B. Belles, 70, of Logan.

The driver of the Subaru was taken to Logan Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The semi driver was not hurt.

Troopers said neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Investigators also said the SUV’s rear tires were smooth and showing cords.
