Trial for teacher accused of feeding puppy to snapping turtle begins

PRESTON, Idaho (ABC4 News) – Thursday marked the beginning of a trial for an Idaho teacher who is accused of animal cruelty in the classroom.

Robert Crosland, a Preston Junior High School biology teacher, faces criminal charges in connection with a classroom demonstration in March.

Crosland who pleaded not guilty to the charge allegedly fed a sick puppy to a snapping turtle as part of the demonstration.
If found guilty, he faces up to six months in jail and a $5,000 fine. 

The jury was seated Thursday and opening statements are expected to begin Friday morning.
