TOOELE COUNTY, Utah (ABC4 News) – Three people were arrested after a high speed chase in Tooele County Friday night.

The chase started when a Stockton police officer observed the driver of a car with five occupants was not wearing a seat belt. The officer attempted to pull over the car on SR-36 as it headed north.

Instead of pulling over, the driver, identified as 21-year-old Casey James Speck, of Tooele, accelerated to 80 mph in a 40 mph zone. Speck ran two other vehicles off of the roadway and due to the vehicle now becoming a threat to public safety, the officer started a pursuit.

Police said Speck ran four stops signs through a Stockton residential area before turning north on SR-36 to head for Tooele. Units from the Stockton Police Department, Utah Highway Patrol, Tooele City Police, and Tooele County Sheriff’s Office were all involved in the pursuit.

The vehicle then began to smoke and break down as it passed the entrance to the Tooele Army Depot.

Everyone in the vehicle was then pulled out of the car to be interviewed.

Speck said he ran because his license was suspended for no insurance and the vehicle he was currently driving did not have insurance.

During a search of the car, police found methamphetamine and additionally a meth pipe was found under the driver’s side seat.

Speck was booked into the Tooele County Jail on charges of drug possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to stop at a stop sign (4), failure to wear a seat belt, reckless endangerment, driving on a suspended license, no insurance, failure to transfer ownership or plates on a vehicle and failure to stop at the command of a police officer.

Police said Speck was previously arrested for first-degree felony forcible sodomy on December 11 by Tooele City Police. Those charges are currently being screened by the Tooele City District Attorney’s Office.

A 20-year-old male passenger, Landon Wilson, of Tooele, was arrested for outstanding warrants and a 17-year-old male was arrested after police found him in possession of a loaded handgun with the serial number filed off. His name is being withheld due to his status as a minor.

Two other passengers were released at the scene.
