SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) Thousands of animal lovers came together to show their support of no kill shelters at the annual Strut Your Mutt event held at Liberty Park Saturday.
Best Friends Animal Society’s Strut Your Mutt brings together a conglomerate of people interested in raising money to save the lives of homeless pets.
The event started at 8:30 a.m. and ran until 2 p.m.
The event offered many activities including a make a toy activity, an obstacle lure course, and creation of hand and paw prints on a souvenir canvas.
You could even pamper your pup with a splash of color, a little bit of grooming then get a custom portrait caricatures done.
Seven food trucks, beer gardens and baked dog biscuits were also part of the fun filled festivities.
The Kids4Pets booth offered the opportunity for others to make pet toys to be sent to Houston to help entertain the 300 dogs displaced by Hurricane Harvey.
Temma Martin, Best Friends Animal Shelter, says every day in America’s shelters, nearly 5,500 dogs and cats are killed, simply because they don’t have safe places to call home.
“But if we work together, we can reduce that number to zero,” said Martin. “Best Friends Strut Your Mutt Salt Lake City is an important event to help the shelters in this community save animals’ lives.”
Saturdays walk was attended by over 2500 people and over 1000 dogs. Their goal was to raise $290,000. The walk was presented by local sponsor BOBS from Skechers and national sponsors Instinct, Man’s Best Fan, Mini, PetPlan Pet Insurance and True Car.
