The Living Traditions Festival is all about celebrating diversity and economic growth

Local News

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah(News4Utah) Salt Lake City’s Living Traditions Festival is coming up next month. Megan Risbon, an arts events production manager, and Carlos “Coco” Garcia of the Rumba Libre Band, joined Emily Clark, to talk about the excitement and sponsorship opportunities.

Risbon says this is a free, three-day cultural celebration that presents the traditional music, dance, foods, and crafts of ethnic communities that make Salt Lake their home. The festival is in its 33rd year.

This year the festival is May 18-20th. It will be held Downtown at the City and County Building and Library Square.

The impact of Living Traditions Festival is multi-faceted! One of the biggest impacts is economic. The festival generates economic activity for Downtown businesses from the 30,000+ audience members. It also produces significant income for the participating artists and food vendors, which is then reinvested in local spending for year-round cultural programs. The festival engages over 30 local businesses in providing goods and services for the event.

The second major impact is raising community profile, otherwise known as diversity. Together, we present the Salt Lake community as a richly diverse place to live and work. It is also important to note how it raises the awareness of the many cultures that make their home in Salt Lake City.

The Living Traditions Festival is recognized nationally and regionally as one of the few high-quality, multicultural celebrations in the country. It promotes a sense of unity and belonging for the many cultures represented at the event.

Risbon says there is still time for businesses to sponsor the event. She says there are several benefits to sponsors:

  • Brand recognition on festival signage, advertisements, social media, website and other deliverables
  • On-site activation space during festival
  • Thank you and acknowledgement from performing arts stages during the event
  • Credentials for complimentary beverages & exclusive access to event
  • Mentions and shout-outs on all Festival social media channels

Sponsorships will be accepted through the end of April.
