Teenager killed in South Salt Lake shooting identified

UPDATE: South Salt Lake Police Police Public Information Officer Gary Keller confirmed the 16-year-old who was shot Tuesday afternoon has died. 

Police identified him as Alan Hernandez-Lopez of South Salt Lake. Keller said he was walking down the street when he was shot. There is still little information as to suspects or why Hernandez-Lopez was shot.

SOUTH SALT LAKE, Utah (News4Utah) – Police are investigating a shooting in South Salt Lake Tuesday afternoon.

Officers were dispatched to the area of 3100 South 300 East just before 4 p.m. Police say was taken to the hospital in serious condition. The victim is 16 or 17 years old. 

300 East was closed while detectives conducted their investigation, but it has since reopened.
