Lehi, Utah (News4Utah) – A 16-year old boy died after jumping off a bridge into the Jordan river in Lehi Saturday night.

Sgt. Thayne Call with the Lehi Police Department said Cole Merrill was with five teens, three males and two females from Alpine who were all jumping off the Old Iron Bridge located at 3150 West 1500 North.

The three males were doing back flips off the eight to ten foot bridge. Two of the males surfaced, but Merrill did not.

A police officer who arrived on scene jumped into the river to help in the search for Merrill but was unable to locate him.

Search and rescue arrived on scene and found Merrill about 25 feet from the jumping area after searching for approximately two hours.

The official cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner.
