DEER CREEK RESERVOIR, Utah (ABC4) – Authorities have released new details after a Salt Lake County teenager drowned in Deer Creek State Park Thursday afternoon.
At around 4:45 p.m., Utah State Parks Rangers were called to the Island Beach day-use area of Deer Creek State Park for a possible drowning.
Rangers say they were informed 17-year-old Fernando Arredondo had been visiting the park with his family. He had been in the water when his family members say he suddenly went under the water and did not resurface.
The water in that area, according to rangers, is anywhere from four to eight feet deep.
Rangers do not believe Arredondo was using inflatable water toys or wearing a life jacket at the time.
At around 7:30 p.m., Arredondo’s body was pull from the water and pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say this incident remains under investigation.

DEER CREEK RESERVOIR, Utah (ABC4) – A 17-year-old boy drowned in Deer Creek Reservoir Thursday afternoon.
According to Lt. Eric Stucki with Utah State Parks, the teenager from Salt Lake County was swimming with family and friends in the reservoir around 4:45 p.m. when he went under the water and never resurfaced
A family member attempted to grab him and pull him up from under the water, but they were unsuccessful.
The teen was not wearing a lifejacket when he was swimming in the reservoir, officials said.
Crews were able to recover his body around 7:30 p.m.
Police have not released his identity. More information about the incident is expected to be released on Friday.
