Teen driver leaves dead passenger behind after suspected DUI rollover

MILLARD COUNTY (ABC4 Utah)- An 18-year-old is behind bars after police say he took off after crashing a vehicle while driving under the influence, leaving the dead passenger behind at the scene.

It happened early Friday morning. Officers say the driver, George Jakob Schafer, was reportedly knocking on doors in the Deseret area trying to get a ride. The say he told one person he had been in a crash.

Deputies located the scene of the rollover and found a 15-year-old girl dead inside. Schafer was located and arrested for automobile homicide, leaving the scene of an accident, DUI, and underage consumption of alcohol. He has not been formally charged. 

The identity of the victim has not been released.
