Teen comic writer creates retreat promoting inclusivity

Local News

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 News) Shelbi Webb, 13, has decided to go big with her message to help kids overcome their challenges of bullying, self-image, LGBTQ acceptance, and suicide.

With the help of her mom and dad, she is planning a retreat for kids and their guardians to come and reconnect, as well as form a new community of safety with others. The Star-Touched Retreat, presented by Sugar Glider a Comic with a Cause, is planned for September 7th and 8th.

Shelbi started writing comics as a form of therapy when she was dealing with being bullied and the suicide death of a close family friend.

Her comic “Sugar Glider” is about a 16-year-old high school girl. She is a track and field star and adrenaline junkie from a Southern California beach community. A meteor shower effected some of the teens in the community. Jordyn, aka Sugar Glider, was camping in the mountains and fell into a crater where a meteor crashed to earth. When she awoke, she had gained super speed, agility, healing, and enlarged empathy.
