SWAT standoff at Salt Lake City Inn ends peacefully, man arrested

SALT LAKE CITY (News4Utah)-A man is in custody after a short SWAT standoff at a Salt Lake City motel on Friday.

Police say they were called to the Salt City Inn located at 1025 North 900 West around 9 a.m. after receiving multiple reports related to a man with a gun.

Det. Greg Wilking with Salt Lake City Police said SWAT was called to the scene after a man and a woman refused to come out of a motel room.

After about an hour, the two people surrendered, Det. Wilking said.

Shortly after, the woman was released and officers booked the man into Salt Lake County Jail. He has been identified as Johnny Maestas, 44. Officer say he was taken into custody for criminal mischief and outstanding warrants.

There never was a weapon found, police said. 

No other information about the incident was made available.
