UPDATE: The driver that died in the single-vehicle crash in Provo has been identified by police as 48-year-old Aaron T Davis from Salt Lake City.
PROVO, Utah (ABC4 News) – A man is dead after a single-vehicle crash in Provo Thursday afternoon.
The crash happened on southbound Interstate-15 around 12:15 p.m.
Utah Highway Patrol said a 2000 Toyota 4-runner was traveling southbound on I-15 near Center Street in the HOV lane.
The roads were wet and it was raining hard at the time. After traveling “too fast for the conditions,” troopers said the SUV hydroplaned on the water and drifted to the left through the left emergency lane striking the concrete barrier with its left front. The vehicle rolled several times coming to rest in the left emergency lane facing northbound.
There were two people in the SUV. The driver, a 48-year-old man, sustained fatal injuries to his head. The front passenger, a 13-year-old boy, sustained minor injuries. Both were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
This is a developing story. More information will be posted as it becomes available.
