LAYTON, Utah (News4Utah) – Two men are a custody after a SWAT standoff in Layton Tuesday afternoon.
Police surrounded an apartment in Layton after they say a suspect barricaded himself inside following an aggravated robbery.
Police say a 19-year-old man went to an Arby’s location in Layton to respond to an online classified ad.
There, he got into a car with two male suspects. Police say the two men pulled out a gun and tried to rob the 19-year-old. The victim was able to get away and reported the robbery to the police.
The call went in to dispatch around noon. Investigators went through messages on the victim’s phone and found the suspect’s name.
Officers responded to the Stonehedge Apartments at 220 North Fairfield Road where one of the suspects lives. The suspect refused to come out prompting a standoff. SWAT was called to the scene.
Around 3:30 p.m., a woman and two young children were released from the apartment. Officers eventually entered the apartment and the suspect was found hiding in a closet in a bedroom. He was identified as Hayden Woods, 20. Woods surrendered without further incident.
Officers evacuated nearby apartments and told other residents in the area to shelter-in-place until the situation was resolved.
The other suspect, Mitchell Tarbox, 29, was taken into custody earlier in the afternoon.
