LAYTON, Utah (ABC4 Utah)- A man was flown to the hospital Thursday afternoon after he was shot multiple times, police say.

It happened just around 12:40 p.m. near 1650 North Avalon Drive.

“I heard several shots go off, I thought it was fireworks, at first,” said witness Shawn Simmons.

“There was a guy standing there with a .38, emptying it into another guy,” added Simmons.

Layton police said officers responded to several calls of shots fired. When officers arrived, they found a 32-year-old Hispanic man with multiple gunshot wounds. Police said the man was shot on the sidewalk outside of an apartment complex.

Police have identified Eddie Angelo Samora as a suspect in the shooting. They say he may have fled the scene in a dark colored SUV and he should be considered “armed and dangerous.”

Witnesses say many children were present at the time of the shooting.

“I was thinking about the children that were standing there — watching this whole thing,” said Simmons.

“It’s ludicrous.”
