SALT LAKE CITY (News4Utah)- The man known as a person of interest in a murder case is now being called a suspect. Wednesday police say he has been taken into custody.
On Monday, officials say 15-year-old Baleigh Bagshaw was found dead in a home near 1680 West and 500 North.
“Baleigh had called her mother to check in after arriving home from school,” a press release from Salt Lake City Police said. “While on the phone with her mother, [she] was violently attacked by an intruder.”
Initially police identified 24-year-old Shaun French as a person of interest in the case. After two days of searching for him, Sgt. Brandon Shearer with the Salt Lake City Police Department said French was found in Colorado Wednesday just before noon.
Sgt. Shearer says French is now considered a suspect in the case. He is being held in Colorado on three charges related unlawful sexual activity with a minor.
“He’d had a previous sexual relationship with Baleigh, he’d also lived in the home with [her] for some time,” Sgt. Shearer said.
French did not live in the home at the time of the murder, Sgt. Shearer said.
The details behind French’s arrest have not been released.
