TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (News4Utah) – Seattle-based coffee giant Starbucks is closing its doors for the afternoon at thousands of its locations across the nation and here in Utah Tuesday.
Staff at more than 8,000 Starbucks locations will undergo a training with a curriculum created by the NAACP, after two black men were arrested at a Starbucks in Philadelphia in April. Reportedly, the men were accused of trespassing when they met at that location to discuss a business deal, but they did not purchase anything.
The incident was caught on video and went viral on social media.
The company’s website home page says “We’ll see you tomorrow. Our stores (and mobile ordering) are closing this afternoon. We are closing early as our teams reconnect with our mission and each other.”
There will be some Starbucks locations in Utah that will remain open. To find out which ones, click here.
