Stamps capture moment in time for 150th anniversary of Transcontinental Railroad

Local News

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 News) The Postal Service will capture a treasured moment in time this weekend by offering a Special Postmark commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad.

The postmark will be applied free to any item bearing a current First-Class stamp and will be available at the Post Office at Golden Spike National Historical Park this weekend.

“The Postmark combined with the new Transcontinental Railroad Stamps will make for a unique and inexpensive souvenir of this historical event,” said USPS District Manager Michael S. Mirides.

The Transcontinental Railroad stamps are being issued as Forever Stamps, sold in panes of 18. The stamps will be available at Post Offices nationwide beginning May 10 and will always be equal in value to the current First-Class Mail one-ounce price.
