South Salt Lake police arrest burglary suspect after report of shots fired

SOUTH SALT LAKE (ABC4 News) One man is in custody and police in South Salt Lake are looking for two others after a burglary Friday morning.

It happened around 11: a.m. in the area of West Temple and Gregson Avenue (3090 South).

The spokesman for the South Salt Lake City Police Department, Gary Keller said officers were called after shots were fired. 

Investigators believe one of the suspects shot at padlocks multiple times while trying to get into a building. The man was later identified as Miguel Lopez, 37, of Salt Lake City.  The handgun that was used was recovered by police. 

Keller said Lopez was taken into custody, but two others were able to get away. Officers searched the are for the other two suspects but were unable to find them.

Lopez was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on a slew of charges including burglary, drug possession, theft, criminal mischief, and intoxication.
