Some Utah students Walk Up instead of Walk Out

SARATOGA SPRINGS (News4Utah) – About 80 Students at Westlake High School in Saratoga Springs missed 17 minutes of second period Wednesday to participate in National Walkout Day.

Some students and faculty used the protest to inspire a spin-off movement: Walk Up.

Emily Frost is a student body Vice President.  She explained, “To walk up, to make a friend, you are showing that you want something done, you want people to feel loved, and that Westlake High is a home and that you want to feel welcome and want to be excited to go to school every day.”

Today’s walkout specifically protested gun violence. Not all of the students at Westlake agree on what kind of gun reform will work, but all agree that kindness will go a lot further and a lot faster than legislation.
