BIG COTTONWOOD CANYON (ABC4 News)- Two Solitude ski patrol officers are recovering after officials say they were caught in an avalanche Thursday.
The avalanche occurred at Solitude Mountain Resort.
“They are okay, One was buried — I don’t know the depth, but was quickly un-buried. They are generally a little banged up and bruised but no major injuries. They were able to be assessed by our medical professionals on site and did not have to go offsite to a hospital,” said Sara Huey, a spokesperson for Solitude Mountain Resort
According to Huey, roughly six feet of snow has fallen over the last five days. That means a lot of work needs to happen in-bounds to control and mitigate avalanche risk.
A group of patrollers was doing just that up Honeycomb Canyon around 10:15 a.m. Thursday when the slide happened.
