Snowmobiler killed in Summit County avalanche identified

UPDATE: Sun 4:20 pm – Police have identified the 49-year-old man killed in an avalanche outside of Coalville on Saturday as Jason Lyman of Mona.

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah (ABC4 News) – A snowmobiler is dead after an avalanche east of Coalville Saturday afternoon.

Lt. Andrew Wright with Summit County Sheriffs Office says they received an SOS call triggered by an avalanche beacon at 1:20 p.m.

A group of snowmobilers near Humpty Creek worked to dig the buried snowmobiler out, he was buried for 30 to 40 minutes before the group found him, Lt. Wright says.

CRP was performed until a DPS helicopter made it to the scene. The snowmobiler was transported to a hospital in Evanston where he died, authorities say.

The snowmobilers identity has not been released yet. Information will be shared as it becomes available.
