SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 News) – Shireen Ghorbani was sworn into the Salt Lake County Council, Tuesday afternoon filling in the seat left vacated by newly-elected Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson

Ghorbani, a communications professional at the University of Utah, previously ran and lost a bid for county mayor.

She also ran for Utah’s 2nd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2018 general election against incumbent Chris Stewart, losing by a nearly 20-point margin.

“I’m eager to get to work,” Ghorbani said. “Representing Salt Lake County is an honor, and I look forward to working with the dedicated employees, residents and elected officials that make our region the best place to live in the state,” said Ghorbani, in a press release.
