PROVO, Utah (ABC4 News) — A man is in jail facing several charges related to a reported rape and an incident with police at a Provo motel on Saturday.
According to arrest records, 32-year-old Derek Chris Thompson was found in a motel room with an unconscious woman.
When officers arrived, they found a broken window in one of the rooms along with a woman, and witnesses who told police they brought the unconscious her to their room after finding her in the room above them.
Documents state the witnesses said when they took the unconscious woman down to their room, Thompson followed them and punched out their motel window.
Those individuals told them Thompson was still in the room above theirs.
When police went upstairs to Thompson’s room, he would not answer the door but instead began screaming through the window.
Records state that Thompson threatened officers by yelling that he was going to grab a gun, then punched the window to that room and broke the glass.
An officer deployed a taser through the broken window, hitting Thompson. When Thompson went to pull the prongs out of his chest, police said officers deployed more tasers and shot a pepper ball at Thompson.
Officers kicked the motel door in and deployed more tasers as he charged at police. He was placed in handcuffs but police said Thompson kicked two of their officers while trying to break free.
Police interviewed a witness who said she was the daughter of the woman. She said Thompson grabbed her by the throat and pushed her against the wall after she found her mom in his room and undressed below the waist.
Police interviewed the alleged victim and said she confirmed Thomson sexually assaulted her despite telling him no.
Police said Thompson admitted to the assault but claimed it was consensual.
Thompson was booked into the Utah County Jail facing several felony charges including object rape, forcible sodomy, aggravated assault, threat of violence, criminal mischief, assault by a prisoner and interfering with an arresting officer.
