SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) – Did you know that fornication is a crime according to Utah law?

A law enacted in 1973 made fornication or sex between people not married to each other illegal in Utah. Fornication was classified as a class B misdemeanor.

The Utah State Legislature repealed the misdemeanor crime of fornication Wednesday.

The House passed Senate Bill 43, Criminal Provisions Modifications, with a vote of 43 to 32. It passed in the Utah State Senate last month and will now go to Governor Gary Herbert for his signature or veto.
