Sen. Lee wants Congressional Budget Office to be ‘more transparent and accountable’

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4 News) – Senator Mike Lee has created legislation aimed at making the Congressional Budget Office more transparent and accountable.

On Thursday he reintroduced the “CBO Show Your Work” Act. This bill would require the CBO to publish everything it uses to determine cost analysis and scoring for congressional budget proposals.

“Congress does need a scorekeeper to provide budgetary estimates for the policy changes it considers,” Sen. Lee said. “But at a bare minimum, that scorekeeper should be forced to show how its models work. Currently the CBO doesn’t have to do that.”
