TOOELE COUNTY (News4Utah)- A portion of I-80 was closed Thursday morning after officials say a semi hauling radioactive dirt caught fire near Lake Point.

It happened just before 7:30 a.m. on I-80 westbound at mile marker 93, not far from the Lake Point exit.

Troopers say the trailer portion of the fire with the load did not catch fire. Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Todd Royce said flames started in the tractor portion of the semi and spread to nearby brush.

Lt. Royce said the fire is under control, but Hazmat teams were called to the scene as a precaution.

Westbound lanes were closed for about 40 minutes as crews assessed the scene, but have since re-opened.

This is a developing story. Updates will be posted as they become available.
