SUMMIT COUNTY (ABC4 News) – Interstate 80 was briefly closed Wednesday afternoon after a semi-truck hauling food caught fire.

It happened around 1:15 p.m. on I-80 westbound near milepost 181.

Utah Highway Patrol said the truck driver pulled over when he started to smell smoke.  Troopers said the truck and trailer caught fire and became fully engulfed.

The fire spread across the roadway and burned the grass in the center median, but eastbound travel was not affected.

I-80 westbound was closed until firefighters could put out the flames.

The truck was hauling Wal-Mart products including cans of SpaghettiOs, ravioli and other “canned-delights,” according to Summit County officials.
