UTAH COUNTY, Utah (ABC4 News) – Rescue teams from Utah County spent the afternoon Saturday helping to rescue a snowmobiler who had crashed in the Mineral Basin area up American Fork Canyon.

Accorfing to Utah County Sheriff Sgt. Spencer Cannon, they received notice around 1 p.m. of a injured snowmobiler who crashed attempting a jump. LifeFlight was unable to land due to weather.

They were finally able to get him down to the parking lot several hours later.

The rider suffered a possible broken leg and a back injury and was taken to the hospital by friends.

Utah has seen a spike in snowmobiler deaths and injuries due to avalanches and crashes. The most recent one was a man who was killed while snowmobiling in Beaver County on Feb 7 when he was buried by an avalanche. When crews found him, he was eight feet under the snow.
