School board approves lacrosse for 2019-20 school year

SALT LAKE CITY ,Utah (ABC4 Utah) Salt Lake City School District Board of Education unanimously approved the sanctioning of lacrosse at the high school level for the 2019-20 school year.

A recent survey conducted in October of Salt Lake City School District students in grades 8-11 showed great interest from male and female students for sanctioning the sport.

“We are thrilled to offer this opportunity for the students in our district, both for men and women. Our Board recognizes the importance of extracurricular and athletic endeavors to a student’s overall educational experience. Our students and families have expressed their great interest in lacrosse, and we as a Board are excited to offer programs that cater to the unique interests and abilities of our diverse student body, “ Board President Heather Bennett.

The school district will offer JV and Varsity teams for both boys and girls at East, West, and Highland High Schools.
