Sandy mayor eliminates previous salary question from city job applications

SANDY (News4Utah) – Sandy Mayor Kurt Bradburn is trying to eliminate the wage gap between men and women by removing one question from city applications.

What’s your previous salary?

Bradburn released the following statement Monday:

“A huge priority for my administration is to implement fair hiring practices which is why I have removed the “previous salary” question from our job applications. Studies have shown because women are generally paid less than male co-workers, asking female job candidates about past salaries can create wage disparity in future positions. By eliminating the question, we will be better able to make pay decisions based on past experience and value added.”

Recent studies have place Utah among the worst states for its gender wage gap.
